The vast majority of people, even those committed to local food, don't know how to recognize it. How is this possible?
There are two kinds of Canadian wine: "VQA" (Vintners' Quality Alliance), which is 100% from Ontario (or B.C., if it's a B.C. winery). The other type of wine is "Cellared in Canada", which in Ontario is 70% of foreign origin, and 100% in B.C.
So if you are absolutely committed to local wine - make sure you buy only VQA!
